Join the CoWorking Tulum Community and Make a Difference

Picture perfect paradise on one end. Seaweed lined with plastic on the other.

This past weekend, CoWorking Tulum organised a beach clean up in (what we thought was) the pristine beaches of Sian Ka'an. This UNESCO world heritage reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, as well as a large marine section intersected by a barrier reef. Yet -- the beaches are lined with plastic bottles, crates, shoes, clothes, needles and discarded trash from none other than.... us.

It is estimated that up to 13 million metric tons of plastic ends up in the ocean each year. Fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals can become injured and killed by the plastic debris.

This weekend, we played a small part in trying to raise awareness of the impact of plastic and trash on our beautiful beaches. Over 65 digital nomads, remote workers, expats and locals living in Tulum came together, spread awareness and connected, not over WiFi, but over empty bottles.

We live in a world where we have never been more connected, yet in reality, we have never FELT more disconnected. Coming together, in real life, creates a level of community and connection that cannot be replicated in the digital world.
