Top 4 Essential Items for a Digital Nomad
How’s remote work been treating you? Perhaps you’re in the early stages of transitioning from office-life to working in a very different way. Or maybe you’re a bit of a veteran, traveling for years now and looking to add new gear to your ultimate mobile workstation.
Figuring out the essentials can be daunting for anyone. Wherever you are in your relationship with remote work, We’ve got you covered. Here are a few top smart devices that will help you optimize your productivity from anywhere.
1. Solis WiFi Hotspot
My number one recommendation for any digital nomad is a portable wifi hotspot. This device has saved me on many occasions when I’m on the go and needed WiFi immediately. Whether it’s at the airport, or in Tulum where the WiFi can suddenly cut off, the Skyroam Solis is there to assist. I have a monthly data plan which works in over 135 countries. It gives me a great sense of comfort, knowing that I have a device I can count on whenever I have a video call with clients or colleagues from work - I just turn Solis on, and I’m connected!
2. Laptop & tablet stands
After years of tweaking I finally found the right combo of stands to keep my laptop and iPad side-by-side, at eye level. Exactly how it should be to maintain proper posture. I know this may seem like a splurge, but if you are working remotely for a substantial amount of time, this kind of stand can make all the difference in your posture and overall comfort!
Why are two monitors better than one?
I use one monitor for work and the other to reference a document, an image, or any number of things. It could be a task list, a timer, and my playlist. The opportunities are endless. What’s great about a second screen is how easily they plug into your laptop, and voila, you will wonder how you ever worked without one!
The laptop stand is also something that is hard to revert from once you have tried it. This one is by Roost Stand. The iPad stand is a generic one I found on Amazon - just search for ”adjustable tablet stand,” and you’ll see some options.
3. Mophie All-in-One Power Station
I'm a fan of well-designed technology. I love when a new device streamlines my daily rituals so that I'm faster and more productive. When I'm working from a cafe, I don't want to be distracted by my devices' battery levels getting low.
There's nothing worse than being forced out of flow-state because you're running low on power or having a device die in the middle of the day and having no outlets available!
In addition to charging up all my devices before I head out for the day, I carry a slim mobile battery pack that provides the confidence I need to stay in the green.
My current favorite mobile charger is the Mophie all-in-one power station mat. They've thought of every detail. It charges up to four devices, including enough juice to wirelessly power up my iPhone 12 Pro Max and keep my 12inch iPad Pro running smoothly.
This charger is the culmination of design iteration - it's borderline perfect. The lack of cables just makes your whole setup so effortlessly clean. It's an ideal Saturday companion for a designer or writer that likes to work in rapid, short cycles throughout the day while appreciating mother nature or the entrepreneur that doesn't have enough time to think about charging their devices all the time.
Alternatively, I also take this 8,000mA power station with me to the beach, but it also doubles as my bedside charger. That's 2-1—well done Mophie.
4. Noise-Canceling Earbuds or Headphones
Okay, so I’m a loyal patron of Apple products. I used to own two sets of Airpods in case one runs out of battery. They’re also excellent noise cancellation earbuds to help you focus if you find yourself in a bustling cafe.
However, meetings are playing a more prominent role in my work these days, and seeing a fellow CoWorking Tulum member with her headset inspired me to get my own.
After extensive research, I decided to go with the Logitech zone wireless Bluetooth headset. They look modern (I ordered mine in matte black) and incredibly comfortable. It delivers excellent active noise cancellation and solid mic intelligibility.
Conclusion
The past year and a half have transformed many people’s relationships with work, with millions making a transition from office-life to remote-life. While many may be getting used to working from home, others question whether they need to be in the same space every day? That perhaps their dreams of balancing travel and work can be a reality for them. CoWorking Tulum provides a space and community for those working remotely in Tulum. They take the loneliness out of working alone or from home and create unique experiences by partnering with over 20+ premium locations to work from in Tulum.
Looking further into 2021 and on, remote-work seems to be here to stay. So it’s best to gear-up now, set up your version of a dope mobile work-station, and enjoy the adventures ahead.
